Kyphosis, commonly known as ‘hunchback’ is a deformity of the spine that is not only cosmetically unappealing but also can cause mechanical back pain due to muscle fatigue. The cause of this condition may be idiopathic (Scheuermann’s disease), spinal tuberculosis, trauma, tumours, osteoporosis etc. If the condition becomes progressive, surgery may be necessary to address the cause of the deformity and to correct and maintain the same.
